SINGAPORE, 16th October 2025 - Political stability remains the cornerstone of Sarawak’s economic strength and attractiveness to investors, said Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg.
Speaking during his officiating speech at the Sarawak Mega Fair 2025 in Singapore today, the Premier said that stability is what investors look for before deciding to invest in any country, as it ensures security and sustainable returns for their businesses.
“For any investment to come into a country, investors want to be sure that there is stability both politically and economically and that their investments will generate returns. Fortunately, Sarawak has that stability,” he said.
Abang Johari added that the presence of nearly half of his Cabinet members at the event was a clear reflection of the unity and cohesiveness within the state government.
“I have no fear about what is going to happen in Sarawak. I am safe, the government is safe, and the business community is safe. I can assure you that it will remain safe forever in Sarawak,” he emphasized.
The Premier also outlined Sarawak’s vision to develop its economy in line with global trends, particularly in emerging industries driven by technology and sustainable energy.
“We are not just talking about Sarawak, we are talking about how we can contribute to mankind through new technologies that benefit this era,” he said, highlighting Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to diversify beyond traditional resources such as coal and fuel.
Abang Johari said Sarawak is actively seeking strategic investments and partnerships to drive growth in green technology, renewable energy, and digital innovation.
He revealed that more than 60 percent of Sarawak’s energy mix currently comes from hydropower, while the remaining portion is generated from low-carbon sources such as gas turbines. The state, he said, is now transitioning further into renewable energy, including solar and biomass.
“In terms of hydropower, we have four major hydroelectric dams, Bakun, which is as large as Singapore; Murum, which is already in production; Baleh, which is under development; and Batang Ai,” he explained.
He added that Batang Ai currently produces about 100 megawatts (MW) of hydroelectric power, and with the addition of floating solar installations generating 50 MW, the total output will increase to 170 MW by next year following an additional 120 MW expansion.
“God has given us resources, and we must optimize these resources to benefit everyone. We come to Singapore to share opportunities and to find strategic partners,” he said.
Also present at the event were Deputy Premiers of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Chairman of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
